adventure! Vince discovered the healing and magical properties of the Native American Flute and embarked on a personal
journey to developing a powerful relationship with the Native American, Anasazi and pre-Columbian Aztec Flutes. He has
since performed with Grammy Awards winner Mary Youngblood, accomplished artist Jan Michael Looking Wolf, Jeff Ball
and many more. As a composer, producer, recording and performing artist, he has recoded 6 albums and performed
throughout the U.S. and Canada
BRAZILIAN WORKSHOP

Discover the history and playing techniques of the Pandeiro, Tamborim, Surdo, Timbal, Repinique, and many other Brazilian
percussion instruments. Learn the basics and intricacies of the Pagode, Bai㯬 and Batacuda rhythms and how the
instruments interact with one another. Cassio was born in Santa Catarina, Southern Brazil, and raised in Curitiba, Paraná,
where he started playing in Marching Bands and neighborhood Samba Schools, he moved to Rio de Janeiro in 1979 to study
at the Villa Lobos School of Music, and also with private instructors in Rio and Bahia
(“Where the Afro Brazilian roots are "deeper").
INTRO TO FRAME DRUMS WORKSHOP

WEST AFRICAN DANCE WORKSHOP
With Lisa Beck - Featuring Live Drumming with Budhi Harlow & KONKOBA

Lisa will lead us in the wonderful rhythms, dances and songs of W. Africa, bringing to life the art of storytelling the
history and culture of this very diverse region with graceful dance moves & heart pounding rhythms! Appropriate for all
ages & abilities.

Learn traditional dances from Guinea and Mali in this all-levels dance workout! Lisa has been studying
African Drumming and Dance for the past 7 years, and invites you to join her on this joyful and playful
dance experience! Budhi Harlow and Konkoba will provide live drumming.

Drumming. Learn traditional rhythms & language, and how they are applied to the djembe. What’s a
Tiggity Ta or a Pa Pa Ta? Answers to those questions and more will come to light in this fun, uplifting
class. Participants will be introduced to basic dun dun and bell parts, learn what a bougaraboo is and how
to layer it's deep melodies into traditional rhythms. Jump in at any time, no matter what your
experience level you will be made to feel at ease. Great fun for the whole family. All ages welcomed.

Join us for a journey through the Ivory Coast of Africa. Learn to play African rhythms on the djembe,
bougaraboo's and djun djun's. Hear ancient stories, learn customs of the past and present and
experience history as it comes to life through rhythm, dance and song. Instruments provided. No
experience necessary, all levels & abilities welcomed, join the class at anytime, you don't have to wait
until the first of each month.

This class is for serious African Drumming Students
Take a journey through the villages of the Ivory Coast, Africa. This is not the African Ballet, West Coast Africa (the
style taught in 95% of the Continental US), this is the very unique culture of indigenous families dating back centuries.
You will learn to play the djembe, duns, brekiti, attoudblans, and more. Bring your own djembe.

Join the fun of Djembe, Duns and more in this fun and uplifting class. Learn the language & techniques
needed to play West African Rhythms, become familiar with reading music and transcribing African
Rhythms to Western Notation and learning the history and traditions of the rhythms you are learning to
play. This is a great class for those new drumming and those who would like to brush up on their skills.
TREY O'TOOLE:
BEGINNING CONGA
EVERY SATURDAY (9:30-10:30AM)
$20 per class if paid by Fri. before class $25 day of class/$55 (4) consecutive classes
(10 years to adult) Learn basic techniques for Latin and traditional rhythms styles. You will be reading music your very
first class! Bring your own conga or rent one for $5 per class. Please call ahead and let us know you are coming.

Learn traditional Afro Cuban Rhythms on the Conga or Bougaraboo. Christoph will teach you how to
incorporate the proper Shakere and Bell lines into the rhythm as well as the history and cultural
aspects. All levels & ages welcomed. Please bring a cowbell with beater and Conga or Bougaraboo –
Available for rental if you do not own your own.

ME & MY BUDDY AFRICAN DANCE CLASS:

Learn to dance to live drumming! Traditional West African Dance, great fun for children of all ages and
their adult buddies. Wear comfy clothes and bring a water bottle (water bottles can be purchased for
$1 at Pulse Drumming)

Essential Djembe and Djun-djun Rhythms
SECOND SATURDAY OF EACH MONTH SATURDAY: August 9th (10:30-Noon)

**BRING YOUR DJEMBE This workshop is for Djembe players to understand the whole rhythm
arrangement, and to improve on their Djun-Djun (dun dun) & bell skills. Budhi will be teaching the
fundamentals, history and culture. His amazing passion for West Africa is brought to life right before
your eyes. Bring your own Dun sets if you have them, or learn to play on ours. Students must have their
own bells/strikers, very limited supply offered for use to new students. Sign up soon, class size is
limited.

TONGUE DRUM MELODIES:

SATURDAY: AUGUST 9th (12:15 - 1:15PM)
(free “Speaking In Tongues” CD for first time participants) Learn to unlock the mysteries of this
wonderful,melodic instrument while working together with others creating poly rhythms so beautiful you
won’t want to stop playing. Participants will learn to play on some of the best Tongue Drums in the world,
each hand crafted from exotic woods, by Michael Thiele of Hardwood Music Company. Michael is
featured in the Smithsonian, and his instruments are featured in many top 10 recordings by Ben Harper
& others. Tongue drums will be provided or bring your own. Hurry, limited spaces available so sign up

Bara M'boup - is A Griot and master drummer hailing from Senegal, West Africa. Bara has attended a
school for gifted musicians in Senegal called Center Cultural Blaise Senghor, performed from Morocco to
New York to Los Angeles to Japan, performed with the Ballet Bougarabou, and has shared the stage with
Tina Turner, The Rolling Stones and recorded with Peter Gabriel and Melissa Manchester.
DRAMANE KONE:

Dramane Kone, drummer, balafon (West African xylophone) player, singer, and instrument maker from
Mali, West Africa. Dramane is a Griot (oral historian) from the famous Kone family of Burkina Faso and
Mali, West Africa and he would like to share his culture with us. This is a wonderful opportunity to study
with a Master, who not only is a great teacher, but brings his infectious laughter & spirit to each and
every class. He has the wonderful ability to teach in one class rhythms suitable to the ultra beginner as
well as challenging those who have been playing for awhile. Be a part of history as it comes to life with
Dramane's stories of his youth and his culture.

PARTICIPANTS MUST HAVE THEIR OWN RIQQ- Souhail has specific requirements call Pulse for
more info!The riqq dates from the third millennium B.C.E and can be found in Mesopotamia, the
Mediterranean, Egypt and probably the Arabian peninsula, excluding Persia. In many traditions it was
primarily played by women,especially in ritual and dance contexts. It continues to hold a place in folk
music, It is also known as an instrument of gypsy communities. Join in the fun and learn to play this very
fun instrument!

Souhail Kaspar, a true virtuoso, is known worldwide for his brilliant technique, exciting performances and
effective teaching skills. His ability to improvise and embellish rhythmic patterns of Arabic music and
knowledge of ethnic musical history make him one of the most highly acclaimed performers and
instructors of our day. Souhail has performed with “Sting”, “Santana”, and Shakira as well as many
other performing groups. Bring your own doumbek, don't have one, no problem rent one of ours, first
come first served, limited amount available so call ahead.
